You can watch a rare live demonstration by Mr. Yuichi Tamaki, an active sumitsubo craftsman from Sanjō, Niigata Prefecture. Experience up close the assured techniques refined through many years of practice, and the delicate, beautiful flow of handwork.

Profile of Demonstrator

Yuichi Tamaki

Yuichi Tamaki

Born in Sanjō City, Niigata Prefecture in 1948. After graduating from high school, he entered the profession of sumitsubo craftsmanship and succeeded the family workshop as the second-generation master under the name “Tsubosei.” He is a member of the Sanjō Master Craftsmen’s Association and also served for many years as chair of the Sanjō Craft Fair Executive Committee.
